Do Artists Make Good Board Members?

Founded in 1925, The Pasadena Society of Artists (pasadenasocietyofartists.org) is one of the area’s original professional artist groups. Membership is by juried submission, so they choose some of LA’s most talented artists to exhibit, mentor and teach. But forming a board of directors from their artists members has been a challenge, especially as the organization has no staff. So PSA asked Jericho Road for help; we matched Mtich Dorger, board expert extraordinaire to facilitate PSA’s board retreat. PSA now has a clearer understanding of the board’s role and a good committee structure. Board President Vic Picou said that “Mitch was awesome” and that the board is much more engaged in organizational activities and volunteering as a result. Thanks to Mitch, there is more great art in our community and more opportunities to explore artistic expression.
