SUMMARY:Breath Is Life: Reclaiming Vitality Together (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:If you work in nonprofits or community spaces and have been holding the heartbreak of wildfires\, political violence\, and ongoing collective crises\, this space is for you. Practicing Joy in Times of Crisis is a series of 10 community gatherings\, five virtual and five in-person\, designed to help you reconnect with joy and hope as intentional practices. \n\n\n\nThis series is presented in partnership with A Thousand Joys. \n\n\n\nThese gatherings are not about bypassing pain. Joy includes our grief. It includes our exhaustion. It includes our rage. Together\, through movement\, music\, restorative practices\, reflection\, and community dialogue\, we will reset our nervous systems and replenish our spirits. When we care for ourselves\, we strengthen our capacity to show up for the people and communities who rely on us. Sustainable service requires sustainable self-care. \n\n\n\nCultivating joy is not indulgent. It is how we stay steady in the work. \n\n\n\nEach session will center a different theme\, from nervous system reset\, to grief and joy\, to rest and release\, to hope as resistance. Some gatherings will focus on restorative and gentle practices. Others may invite music\, creative expression\, movement\, or even play. Every gathering will include grounding\, reflection\, embodied practice\, and meaningful connection. You can attend one or join many. Each session stands alone while also building toward a deeper sense of collective resilience over time. \n\n\n\nDrop in whenever you can. Come as you are. \n\n\n\nAbout A Thousand Joys \n\n\n\nA Thousand Joys is a California-based nonprofit that works with nonprofit staff\, educators\, and service providers to build resilience in high-stress\, service-oriented roles. Their work integrates mental health\, somatic practices\, and leadership development to help individuals and organizations sustain themselves while supporting their communities. \n\n\n\nYour Facilitator \n\n\n\nOur first two gatherings will be facilitated by Hala Khouri\, ATJ’s lead trainer. She is a trauma-informed somatic educator\, yoga teacher\, and longtime trainer of social justice leaders and helping professionals. With over two decades of experience integrating mindfulness\, somatics\, and anti-oppression work\, Hala brings a grounded\, compassionate\, and deeply embodied approach to collective healing. Her work centers resilience without denying reality\, creating spaces that are both brave and restorative. Our first gathering is an invitation to return to the most essential rhythm we share; the breath. In times of crisis\, our bodies tighten\, brace\, and carry more than they were meant to hold alone. Breath brings us back. Community helps us stay. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this opening session\, we’ll explore how joy and grief coexist in the body\, and how intentional breathing and gentle movement can help us reconnect to vitality\, hope\, and one another. This is not about forcing positivity. It’s about creating space for what’s real\, while remembering that aliveness is still available. \n\n\n\nYou’ll leave feeling more grounded\, more connected\, and more resourced than when you arrived. \n\n\n\nCome as you are. Heavy-hearted\, exhausted\, curious\, or ready to move\, there is room for all of it.

SUMMARY:Somatic Movement for Rest\, Renewal & Joy (in person)
DESCRIPTION:Practicing Joy in Times of Crisis \n\n\n\nCommunity Gatherings that Restore & Renew \n\n\n\nIf you work in nonprofits or community spaces and have been holding the heartbreak of wildfires\, political violence and ongoing collective crises\, this space is for you. Practicing Joy in Times of Crisis is a series of 10 community gatherings; five virtual and five in-person\, designed to help you reconnect with joy and hope as intentional practices. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSomatic Movement for Rest\, Renewal & Joy  \n\n\n\nJoin us for an in-person community gathering designed to help you refill your cup and reconnect with vitality. This is dedicated time to step out of constant response mode and into embodied restoration. \n\n\n\nWe’ll begin with grounding and a brief community circle\, an opportunity to land\, breathe\, and connect with others who are also holding space in their communities. There is something powerful about being in a room with people who understand the weight of the work. \n\n\n\nHala will then guide you through gentle somatic and yoga-based movements to support nervous system regulation\, release stored tension\, and restore energy. These practices are accessible to all levels of flexibility and mobility; you are invited exactly as you are. \n\n\n\nFrom there\, we’ll open into a more spontaneous movement experience with music to inspire you. You may choose to rest quietly\, or you might find yourself moving to the rhythm. There is no right way\, only an invitation to follow what feels honest and alive in your body. \n\n\n\nWe’ll close with guided self-reflection and optional sharing to integrate the experience. \n\n\n\nCome to reconnect with yourself.Come to remember joy in your body.Come to be in community.
