I look forward to speaking at the monthly Catalyst & Coffee (https://www.meetup.com/Catalyst-Coffee-Speakers-Series/) meeting on Tues. Mar. 26 at 8 am. We’ll discuss the changes in nonprofits becoming more business-like entities, especially the proliferation of social enterprises. In the past 15 – 20 years, nonprofits have adapted and implemented many business processes and many organizations see themselves as mission-based businesses. At the same time, many for-profit businesses have taken on social missions. Is there a reason to distinguish between nonprofit organizations and for-profit businesses? If the line between nonprofits and for-profits blurs, what happens to tax exemptions and other legal differences? What about organizations that don’t have clear options for earned income streams? Melanie will discuss changes in the nonprofit sector and the ways in which Jericho Road Pasadena is helping nonprofits function well as mission-based businesses.
