At a recent Pasadena Executive Roundtable meeting with Betsy Densmore of the Academy for Social Enterprise, we discussed the idea that nonprofits can make money. Betsy referred to this great TED talk by Dan Pallotta, that dismantles the idea that charities need to be poor, never have excess cash and spend nothing on overhead. Since Dan gave the talk in 2013, business infrastructure in nonprofits has improved, but we’ve still got some growing to do around nonprofits’ relationship with money. Enjoy the talk; it’s a great use of 18 minutes!
