Sharing Knowledge from One Generation to Another

JRP has gotten a lot of retired or semi-retired nonprofit Executive Directors signing up as volunteers in the past few years, whose knowledge and experience is so valuable to the young nonprofit management staff moving up the ranks. So JRP is providing more coaching projects, especially to Millennials, who at the beginning of long and successful careers making our world a better place.

One particularly successful recent coaching project was with David Fields, who retired as Exec. Dir. of the Society of the St. Vincent de Paul of Los Angeles, at the end of 2018. JRP staff looked at 30-something staff we’ve worked with to see who could use coaching to leverage their career. Holly Hight was a perfect candidate. David’s work with her achieved exactly what coaching should: they identified what Holly was already really good at and where she could round out her skills, what she wanted to achieve in her nonprofit career and what brings fulfillment to her. After just a few months of coaching, Holly was offered a promotion at her job and offered a new job at another agency! She has gained skills in the areas she was less confident in and is loving the new job.

David also grew through the experience; he realized he wasn’t quite ready to volunteer and has taken on an Exec. Dir. position at an agency that’s smaller than his previous organization, so will leave him with a little more free time, but also continue his legacy of good works.

Thank you to Holly and David for being such great nonprofit leaders!
