from January 2015:

Like many nonprofits, North East Trees was started by a passionate founder, who was the center of the organization for many years. He did a wonderful job of building an organization that improves the environment, beautifies needy neighborhoods, and teaches at-risk youth job skills. But when their founder passed away a few years ago, they felt rudder-less. They provide great services and have good infrastructure, but like most founder-centered organizations, weren’t sure how to proceed without their champion. JRP has recently completed a board development project with them, to help clarify leadership expectations and divide up the many responsibilities that the founder had managed single-handedly. We’re excited to help this great nonprofit bridge the large gap left by the passing of their founder.

2020 update: NET has been slowly but surely implemented our volunteer’s recommendations and has grown to cover not only Northeast LA, but the whole county and occasionally even surrounding counties. Thanks, NET for empowering low-income communities to build beautiful, healthy and ecological neighborhoods!
