Celebrating Martin Luther King’s Social Justice Legacy

The name “Jericho Road” is derived from imagery in a sermon by the Rev. Martin Luther King, when he exhorted his listeners to follow the example of the good Samaritan tending the injured traveler on the road to Jericho. “One day, the whole Jericho Road must be transformed so that men and women will not be beaten and robbed as they make their journey through life. True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it understands that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring.” – Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., from the speech Beyond Vietnam, April 1967

JRP implements this mission by matching skilled volunteers and board members with local nonprofits, which help builds strong nonprofits, thereby maximizing impact on our community. We are also excited to host the 2020 Pasadena Mayor’s Interfaith Prayer Breakfast on May 7, featuring speaker Dr. Terrence Roberts. Dr. Roberts started his long social justice career as a member of the Little Rock 9, the group of African-American students who tried to integrate Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas.

If you would like to hear Dr. Roberts’ talk, tickets are available at https://2020MIPB.eventbrite.com. If you would like to support this event, sponsorship levels are available at https://jrpasadena.org/corporate-sponsorship/.
