Planned Giving – Boring, but Helpful

There is a popular phrase in fundraising that dead people give more than corporations to charity; in fact, it’s absolutely true that more money goes to nonprofits from wills, bequests and charitable trusts than from for-profit businesses. Yet, nonprofits often struggle to set up even basic planned giving programs.

The Los Angeles County Arboretum has a robust development department, but felt that their planned giving program was lackluster. Knowing that JRP has a wide diversity of skilled volunteers, they contacted us for help and we had the perfect fit! Jack Brickson retired a couple of years ago as the Planned Giving Officer at a very large nonprofit, so helping the Arboretum build this potentially large income stream was easy. Director of Development Sylvia Rosenberger said “Jack was an invaluable thought partner” and “helped me be equipped to have these conversations with donors.” Ultimately, a good planned giving program will raise more for the Arboretum, thereby educating more kids and adults about the natural world and how to connect more with our local environment.

My question is: if I name the Arboretum in my will, do I get a free peacock? I really like them and want one in my yard….
