Meeting Emerging Needs
Jericho Road Pasadena is great at matching volunteers with community needs. Although we usually connect skilled volunteers with a nonprofit’s operational needs, we are now putting our match-making skills to good use by supporting seniors, one of the groups most affected by COVID-19. JRP has partnered with the Pasadena Senior Center to manage a team of volunteers making thousands of check-in phone calls to seniors who are self-isolating as per Safer at Home guidelines.
JRP put a call out for volunteers to make the check-in phone calls to local seniors and the San Joaquin Valley College Nursing School was quick to respond. The graduating nursing students were searching for a virtual volunteer opportunity to complete their geriatric clinical hours and once the match was made, the students got to work reaching out to local seniors. The students enjoyed the project and the chance to make an impact during challenging times:
“Clients really appreciated the call to check on them. While some were aware of the services provided through the Pasadena Senior Center, almost all were very appreciative of the call and conversation to check in on their health and well-being. Once started, we quickly realized the need for this type of activity and were thrilled by the warm reception of the senior community we were servicing.”
