Pasadena Senior Center gets high-end web expertise

Opened in 1960, Pasadena Senior Center helps older adults engage, enrich and empower their lives by providing opportunities for social interaction, recreation, basic support and needs services, education, volunteerism and community activism. In 1999, it became the first nationally accredited senior center in California when it was accredited by the National Council on Aging’s National Institute of Senior Centers.

Today, expanding the organization’s fundraising capacity is a pressing priority.

As a donor supported nonprofit, PSC doesn’t receive local, state or federal funding and is not city operated. Membership and class fees are kept as low as possible. While they help, they don’t cover the Center’s operating costs. Donations, grants, corporate sponsorships, and community philanthropy are essential to meet these expenses and support PSC social wellness programs.

Enhancing the Center’s website was critical to connecting with these funding sources. To help, JRP introduced the Center to volunteer Christine Chen, Data Governance Analyst for The Walt Disney Company.

Christine began by conducting a Google Analytics study of the current site and delivering a report on its page hierarchy and how it could be strengthened. “This information not only helped PSC’s webmaster and leadership reorganize the existing website, but design a new and more effective one,” she says.

“Christine helped us understand traffic patterns and usage information,” says Charmaine Nelson, PSC’s Director of Marketing and Communications. “She also provided a proposed structure for a new website and other recommendations to help site visitors find information and donate easily online.”

The Center’s team immediately began work on a new website, which debuted in November.

“We had already increased our online transactions significantly, especially through the pandemic,” says Charmaine. “We’re excited to watch how this powerful new tool accelerates that momentum.”
