Board service highlight
Have you ever thought about serving a nonprofit Board?
JRP provides a board matching program using a hands-on approach where we first meet with local nonprofits and local professionals looking for board service opportunities, and then we match the right person with the right board.
Chris Pelch is a JRP volunteer that joined the board of Friends in Deed Pasadena through the JRP board matching program. Friends in Deed is an organization that provides supportive services to meet basic human needs, so our homeless and at-risk neighbors can rebuild their lives. Chris grew up in Pasadena and he made the decision to join a board because he ”was looking for a way to contribute positively and I felt like the skills I had gained in the workplace could be utilized to help do good in our community.”
He joined the board at Friends In Deed just before the pandemic hit. Over the last 2 years, Chris considers that the important work of serving homeless and at-risk neighbors has become more paramount. Through serving on the Board, he said he has gained an appreciation for the challenges that Pasadena faces in rebuilding the lives of at-risk neighbors. In Chris’ words, “I am proud of the work we have done, especially the Board’s desire to find new ways to improve the lives of the people we serve.”
