Volunteer Spotlight. Chair Khera: A behind-the-scenes force for good

While volunteer Chai Khera’s work is not always seen, it’s as essential as the more visible areas of expertise that volunteers bring to Jericho Road Pasadena (JRP)–and to the organizations we serve.

Chai initially tackled a backlog of JRP’s administrative tasks to ensure that operations would run smoothly within the organization. “My background in finance, human resources, and operations, particularly in building and improving new and small businesses, equips me with skills in process efficiency, fundraising, and building effective teams.”

She also had the opportunity to assist JRP’s Executive Director, Kim Olpin with the selection process for a new Workshop Coordinator position. “I helped review and interview candidates, which ultimately led to successfully hiring a qualified individual who will contribute significantly to our programs.”

While Chai thought her contributions would be focused on her specific tasks, she quickly realized that JRP’s  efforts become even more impactful when individuals work as a team. “By sharing my skills, I’m not just providing immediate assistance; I’m empowering organizations to thrive in the long run and better serve the communities they support. This approach fosters deeper connections and allows me to contribute in a way that aligns with my passions and strengths.”

In addition to her work with JRP,  Chai has also supported other organizations with her skills and enthusiasm. She fondly recalls a moment from her volunteer work with Junior League Las Vegas.

“It was during our Bear Project, which brings Christmas joy to underprivileged children in local schools and the community. The excitement and joy on the children’s faces was truly heartwarming. I noticed how a simple act of kindness could spark such happiness and hope. It was fulfilling to see firsthand the tangible impact we had on these kids’ lives, reminding me of the importance of community support and connection.

As a passionate volunteer, seeing her involvement help a nonprofit achieve its goals is incredibly fulfilling for Chai.

“It reinforces the impact of my contributions and reminds me why I volunteered in the first place. Knowing that my professional skills can drive meaningful change and support the mission of the organization brings a deep sense of satisfaction.

It’s rewarding to witness the positive outcomes of our collective efforts and to feel like I’m part of something greater.”

If you have professional skills and want to make a difference in your community, we invite you to volunteer your expertise.
