That’s one way Jonathan Gordon describes the impact of skilled volunteering. As the owner of Clear Path Accounting, Jonathan brings more than 12 years of public accounting experience across a wide variety of industries and businesses.

In addition to volunteering his professional expertise, Jonathan serves as a board member and Treasurer of Jericho Road Pasadena.

Bringing Financial Expertise to the Nonprofit Community

As a Jericho Road Pasadena volunteer, Jonathan has supported Altadena Music Theatre, helping the organization establish and better understand its financial systems.

His accounting expertise helps nonprofits gain a clearer picture of their finances and meet funder reporting requirements. By improving their ability to organize financial information and generate relevant reports, Jonathan helps organizations make informed decisions and communicate their financial needs to funders.

His commitment to Jericho Road Pasadena also extends to the organization’s leadership. As a board member and Treasurer, Jonathan contributes his financial knowledge and experience to support JRP’s own financial stewardship and organizational responsibilities.

For Jonathan, volunteering through Jericho Road Pasadena is an effective way to share his professional skills with organizations that need them. As he explains, it allows him to leverage his volunteer time without having to find organizations in need on his own.

Making a Tangible Difference Through Skills-Based Volunteering

When asked what he enjoys most about skilled volunteering, Jonathan’s answer was simple: “Seeing the impact.”

One of his favorite volunteer memories illustrates exactly what he means. After helping Altadena Music Theatre get its financial system fully set up, the organization’s executive director asked whether it would be possible to generate reports for funders, something that had previously been difficult.

With just a few clicks, Jonathan was able to produce the reports they needed. The executive director’s surprised response, “Oh, wow,” made the moment especially rewarding.

This experience highlights how sharing professional expertise can make a meaningful difference in a nonprofit’s day-to-day work. What may seem like a straightforward accounting task can save staff time, reduce administrative challenges, and help an organization meet important funding requirements.

A Message About the Value of Skilled Volunteering

Jonathan’s experience demonstrates that professional skills can be an important resource for nonprofits. Financial expertise, in particular, can help organizations better understand their resources, improve reporting, and build stronger systems to support their missions.

Through his volunteer work and his leadership as Treasurer of Jericho Road Pasadena, Jonathan shows how financial knowledge can strengthen nonprofits both behind the scenes and at the organizational level.
