The 2021 Pasadena Mayor’s Interfaith Prayer event has been transformed into a weeklong virtual series. We will share a daily inspirational community message each morning beginning on Monday, May 3 and concluding on Friday, May 7. The series features a variety of prayer and music from Pasadena congregations and nonprofits.

One of the interfaith clergy participating this year is Pastor Jean Burch, the senior pastor of the Community Bible Church of Greater Pasadena. Prior to her appointment as senior pastor she served the church as assistant pastor under her father, Pastor Emeritus John W. Burch. She is simply and affectionately known as “Pastor Jean.”

Although born in Arkansas, Pastor Jean is a product of Pasadena, California. Before becoming the pastor of CBC she spent a 20- year career in the legal profession as director of legal recruitment and professional development for two Los Angeles law firms. During that time she also served as president of the Los Angeles Association of Legal Recruiting Administrators and two terms on board of directors of the National Association for Law Placement. She spent the last six years of her legal career at the Los Angeles County Bar Association as the Director of Continuing Legal Education. In March of 2000 she ended her legal career to become a full time pastor.

Pastor Jean earned an A.A. degree for Pasadena City College, a B.S. degree from Biola University in Organizational Leadership, and a MAGL (Master of Arts in Global Leadership) from Fuller Theological Seminary. She also served for three years on the faculty of the Lloyd Ogilvie Preaching with Passion Conferences sponsored by Fuller Seminary.

She is the President/CEO of the Community Bible Community Development Corporation (formerly known as Northwest Pasadena Development Corporation). The CBCDC owns and operates the Community Arms Apartments and is co-owner of Kings Villages Apartments providing 446 units of affordable housing and social services for over 1500 residents in Pasadena. She is also a founding member and past president of the Clergy Community Coalition, a coalition of Christian pastors and clergy representing the greater Pasadena area, working in conjunction with civic and community leaders.

Pastor Jean was awarded the 2003 29th Congressional Women in Leadership Award presented by Congressman Adam Schiff. On July 15, 2004 she was invited by the United States Congress to deliver the opening prayer at a session of the U.S. House of Representatives at the Capitol in Washington D.C. Also among her accolades are the NAACP Pasadena Chapter Faith Award and the Pasadena Police Department Community Partnership Award.

Pastor Jean is a mother and grandmother and is blessed to have her family in ministry with her at CBC.
