Stars (formerly the Lake Avenue Community Foundation; gostars.org) unleashes the God-given potential of at-risk youth, providing the tools necessary to thrive academically, emotionally, economically, and spiritually. Like most well-run nonprofits, Stars has term limits for board members, so is always looking for good prospects to join the board.
JRP trains and matches people with boards and we had the perfect fit for Stars. Anthony Eng works in finance at the Walt Disney Company and has a background in mentoring and faith-based volunteer work. As a Millennial, Anthony knew that joining a board could not only bring his finance skills to a worthy nonprofit, but would also be a professional development and community connection opportunity for him. He attended one of JRP’s board training, then we matched him with Stars.
So far, he loves it, having received a warm welcome from the rest of the board and having visited Stars’ after-school and mentoring programs. Anthony knows that by serving on Stars’ board, Pasadena’s under-served youth will be better educated and more productive citizens for years to come.
