When Javier, an accountant, first approached JRP about board training and matchmaking, he told us that although he was happy to share his accounting skills, he also wanted to support an organization attuned to the creative side of his brain, especially one involving music. Javier had participated in band in high school and college (he even marched in the Rose Parade!), but put music aside when he landed a demanding job at a large accounting firm. As a Millennial, he’s just attaining the right professional level to join a board. To prepare himself to serve effectively, he attended JRP’s board training program. We then introduced him to Stephen McCurry, Executive Director of the Pasadena Conservatory of Music, a well-known and respected nonprofit. PCM needed more financial expertise on its board, and were delighted to add more representation by the Millennial generation and the Latino community. Just a few months into his first board experience, Javier is loving PCM’s mission of educating, advocating, inspiring, and sharing through music. He’s already familiar with PCM finances. Now he may take up playing an instrument, too.
A Very Harmonious Match
