Board fundraising workshop Part 3: Your Role

A key responsibility of board service is ensuring adequate resources to meet your organization’s mission — and yet many board members feel uncomfortable asking for money. JRP is offering Resourcing Your Mission, a virtual four-part workshop that builds on the latest philanthropic data and research to give board members proven strategies and practical advice that will make them feel more comfortable and be more successful in their fundraising role.

In this session, trainer Trip Oldfield, CFRE, put the spotlight directly on workshop attendees, examining the specific responsibility board members play in fundraising and how staff members fit into the process. Since Trip firmly believes that fundraising is a team sport, he reviewed a rundown of board roles vs. staff roles.

He also looked at six key board member strengths and how each could be leveraged to enhance the organization’s fundraising efforts. Other topics included why volunteers make the best donors, ideas for identifying potential friends of the organization, and ways to get donors more directly involved.
